Scores of Filipino-Americans and other interested parties turned out on Sunday for the 33rd annual Santacruzan procession and subsequent street fair in Downtown Jersey City. The festivities, which also included a mass at St. Mary’s Church on 2nd Street, were organized by the Catholic Action of Mary and the Pan-American Concerned Citizens Action League.

There was a fifin’ and a drummin’ as the Paulus Hook neighborhood came out last night to commemorate the anniversary of 1779′s Battle of Paulus Hook, the Revolutionary War battle in which Major Light Horse Harry Lee led revolutionary soldiers on a night assault on the British-controlled fort, taking 158 prisoners in their efforts.

Carol Lester, Sterling Waterman Join the School Board

At tonight’s Board of Education re-organization meeting, the newly elected Carol Lester and Sterling Waterman were officially sworn in and took office. Angel Valentin, who won re-election last week, was also sworn in to another term, and William DeRosa was re-elected as the board’s president.
