Jersey City Dad: Looking Back, Looking Ahead

By • Sep 9th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

It’s all about mileposts when you have a kid. A big one for this family happened August 29 when we celebrated three years together — three years since that photo of me sitting with Dash in a Baby Bjorn looking really scared. I stand by that bit of wisdom I shared before: the days are [...]

Jersey City Dad: An August Spring

By • Aug 19th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

I’m a parent, so I spend a lot of time complaining about my child. Fortunately I have an outlet here at JCD to do it instead of going on and on to neighbors and friends. But I have to say that my kid has been pretty charming of late. Not only has there been a [...]

Jersey City Dad: An Old Hand

By • Aug 10th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

Dash and I hung out with my cousin and her 22-month-old son William the other day. It was a wonderful to see them. The visit started with lunch at a quaint slow food joint in Brooklyn and ended up here at JC at the beer garden for sausages and beer – yep, that’s how this [...]

Jersey City Dad: Multipurpose Housing

By • Aug 1st, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

One of the biggest struggles of city living for most of us is our lack of living space. There’s some out there that have more than enough space, or enough space to grow into a house/apartment as opposed to out of it, but the majority of us probably wish we had more room. Never more [...]

Jersey City Dad: On the Road Again

By • Jul 18th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

It was exactly a year ago that I wrote about our familial adventures in Montreal during jazz fest. Even though we forgot our stroller, we managed to wander the beautiful city and take in a fair amount of live music on the outdoor stages. Dash had a marvelous time for the most part, though he [...]

Jersey City Dad: Ponyo

By • Jun 28th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

We’ve never been one of those families who thought television was evil, even when it comes to kids. Dash gets to watch a couple hours most days when we are home and that’s fine – it makes him happy, it gives me a break, and with the right shows it can be fairly educational. Nick [...]

Jersey City Dad: It’s All Connected

By • Jun 20th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

Like just about every other kid out there, Dash picks his nose. He’s also had a few face plants while playing. He’s collided with a nine-year-old on a razor scooter and had an infirm old man fall on top of him. All these and other instances have lead to nosebleeds. Kids get banged up and [...]

Little Kids Rock Helps Fill the Gaps in Jersey City’s Music Education Curriculum

By • Jun 17th, 2011 • Category: Arts, Featured, News

The idea behind this organization is that all children are born composers and improvisers who can draw upon the materials and knowledge of their teachers. Not only does Little Kids Rock attempt to restore a creative outlet that was taken away from students, the organization hopes to completely revitalize music education (and perhaps education in general) in our nation’s public schools.

Jersey City Dad: Naptime Is Over

By • Jun 13th, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

Things have sort of come to a crossroads here at the Hendrickson home. The news I was fearing has finally come true — Dash has stopped taking his nap. After some weeks where he’d occasionally resist going down for an afternoon siesta, Dash has taken a stand and literally refuses to go down, not staying [...]

Jersey City Dad: Naked Boy, Irate Boy

By • Jun 2nd, 2011 • Category: Blog, Jersey City Dad

Naked kids are pretty damn cute in my book. There’s a point where it gets awkward, but Dash hasn’t hit it in my book. Hell, I went through a phase of it college and managed to survive without getting arrested, but those are other stories for another time, perhaps in the park. However, nudity also [...]
