Lou Manzo
Lou Manzo is a Hudson County political veteran. He served as Hudson County freeholder from 1990 to 1993, and was elected to the state Assembly in 2003, where he served two terms representing the 31st District. He lost a bid for the district’s state Senate seat in 2007. He has mounted five unsuccessful runs for mayor: in 1992, 1993, 2001, 2004 and 2009.
On July 23, 2009, Manzo was charged with conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right by the FBI. Along with his brother, Ron Manzo, he allegedly accepted $27,500 in cash from a purported developer in exchange for political favors, in the event that he be elected mayor. (You can read the criminal complaint against them here.)
Manzo formerly worked for the city’s Health Division, and currently runs the Office of Public Advocacy, a community advocacy organization in Greenville.
