Michael Manzo

Michael Manzo (who is not related to Lou Manzo) is a longtime employee of the Jersey City Fire Department.

On July 23, 2009, Manzo was charged with conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right. He allegedly accepted $5,000 in cash from a purported developer in exchange for political considerations of that developer’s upcoming projects. The money was used for his 2009 campaign running as an independent candidate for the Ward B City Council seat. His quest was ultimately unsuccessful, as was his 2001 run for the seat on a ticket with then-City Council president Tom DeGise. On July 23, Manzo was suspended from his fire department job pending the outcome of the federal investigation. (You can read the criminal complaint against him here.)
