CANCO Breaks Ground on New Public Park Adjacent to Development

A much-needed 15,000 square feet of green space is coming to a mostly industrial area west of Journal Square, thanks to a high-end condo development.

CANCOlofts announced this week that construction has begun on the new park, located across the street from its main building on Dey Street. In the inverse of the famed Joni Mitchell song, the park will replace a parking lot there, and it is slated to be finished and opened to the public by the end of October.



New Hearing on Steve Hyman’s Applications to Tear Down the Embankment Set for Wednesday

In June, Superior Court Judge Maurice Gallipoli ruled that developer Steve Hyman was entitled to a new hearing before the city’s Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) regarding his petition to tear down the 6th Street Embankment. Despite Jersey City’s Bond Vote, Steve Hyman Says He’s Not Selling the Embankment

Although Jersey City’s City Council last week narrowly approved issuing about $7.6 million in bonds to acquire the contested 6th Street Embankment, developer Steve Hyman says he has no interest in selling the city the land. Instead, he says he will continue fighting in court for his right to develop the property.
