No-Shows and a New Flier Controversy at Final City Council Candidates’ Forum Ahead of Election on Tuesday

Five candidates for the two at-large city council seats up for grabs in Tuesday’s election did not show up to the final candidates’ forum last night, including the two incumbents, Kalimah Ahmad and Ray Velazquez. Ward F Councilwoman Viola Richardson, Patrick Leonard and Melissa Alexander Clark were also no-shows to the two-hour event at Ferris High School.

First-Ever Paulus Hook Tree Lighting Scheduled for This Evening

The Historic Paulus Hook Association and representatives from PS 16 have invited the community to their inaugural community tree lighting event this evening. The ceremony begins at 6 pm tonight in the courtyard of PS 16 (96 Sussex St.), and the tree lighting will be followed by performances showcasing the school’s Enrichment Program.



BOE Candidates Sound Off at Marathon HPHA Forum

Last night over 80 community members were in attendance for the Historic Paulus Hook Association’s Board of Education candidate forum at PS #16. There appears to be heightened interest in this year’s election due to the caustic mix of increased municipal taxes and severe cuts in state funding. Voters will have the opportunity to vote for three candidates out of the field of 16 on Tuesday; ten of them were on hand last night.
