As we reported yesterday, a dire budget situation has forced Jersey City to cancel its annual July 4 concert and fireworks display. We just received the numbers on how much the city stands to save by doing so.
The Healy administration announced today that budget pressures have forced the city to cancel its annual Fourth of July fireworks display and concert at Liberty State Park. The city says it will reallocate money from that event to other concerts and cultural events during the months of July and August, including the Summerfest Concert Series, the Dance Series at the J. Owen Grundy Pier and the MLK Concerts at the HUB.
This year’s 4th of July celebration in Liberty State Park went off without a hitch. Jersey City Cultural Affairs director Maryanne Kelleher estimated the total crowd in the park at near 200,000 on Saturday.
